AYSO's five philosophies are very different from other youth sports organizations. We follow and live by the following 5 philosophies:
Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, & Good Sportsmanship.

Everyone Plays
Our program's goal is for kids to play soccer. As such we mandate that every player on every team must play at least half of every game.

Balanced Teams
Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible-because it is fair and more fun when teams of equal ability play.

Open Registration
Our program is open to all children between 4 and 19 years of age who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing.

Positive Coaching
Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment by the players and ultimately leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players.

Good Sportsmanship
We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO.

"Whew, I've registered, now what?"

What is the Board doing? Immediately after the last registration date, your commissioners begin the process of putting the teams together for the upcoming season. When this is completed, the uniforms will be ordered and the coaches notified.

When do the coaches get their teams? Coaches should expect to receive their team rosters in Mid August.

Can my child play on the same team as a friend? Due to team balancing and fair play, the only requests honored will be for siblings.

When do the players get called? Teams may begin practice in August. The coaches will call the players and give the players/parents all the information they will need in regards to practice times. Each coach sets his/her own practice days and time. Most practice fields are the same as the playing fields with the exception of Encinitas Elem and  Gabrielino HS.  For directoins to our fields please see our Venues link on our website.

It’s after August 28th and my child hasn’t been called. What do I do? Please don’t panic if you see teams practicing and your child has not been called. Not all teams practice at the same time. Also, some of the coaches may be out of town. If your child hasn’t been called by September 1st, please contact his/her age group commissioner. The commissioner’s or coach administartor's name and phone number can be found on our website at www.ayso40.org under Board members.. If you don’t have access to a computer, please contact our Regional Info Line at 626.298.8070 ext 102.

What else does my child need? The registration fee includes: complete uniform (jersey, shorts and socks), supplemental accident insurance, trophies or medals, team and individual pictures. In addition, your child will be required to wear shin guards at all practices and games. You may need to obtain soccer shoes, a water bottle and a ball (size depends on the age).

How often are practices and games? Practices are usually held 1-2 times per week with the time determined by your child’s coach. Games will be played on Saturdays with the excpetion of some Upper Division games on weekdays.

Please remember…. AYSO is a parent-based, all volunteer organization. We depend on volunteers to help in all areas of our organization to run a smooth and successful region. This will give our children a positive and safe experience. Go to the games! Learn the rules! Always remembering to be respectful to your child’s coaches and hard-working referees as they are all voluteers everyone of them. Above all, have fun!!! For more info, refer to our Kids Zone page at www.ayso40.org   Please keep in mind the 5 AYSO Philosophies *Everyone Plays* * Open Registration* *Balanced Teams* *Positive Coaching* *Good Sportsmanship* and remember,  "it's not about us...it's about our kids".
